PS5 Controller layout

PlayStation controllers have evolved quite naturally over the years, and it's easy to see how the design of the PS4 controller dates back to the days of the original PlayStation. The PS5 controller, however, takes that concept and turns it upside down. Some things are the same, like the location of the joystick and the layout of the buttons. But almost everything else in the controller is completely different.

That starts with the general shape. The PS5 controller actually looks a bit more like the Xbox controller, with that oversized kind of look. However, this is a good thing: play with a more natural feel. It also helps give the controller a smoother, more refined look.

The color scheme is also totally different. The all-black design is finished in favor of a two-tone black and white look. Looks great. Perhaps the only downside is that the white can fade over time, but that remains to be seen. Since its release, the controller has also been released in 'Cosmic Red' and 'Midnight Black,' but frankly, the base model looks better.

Here too much attention is paid to detail. The controller offers a textured grip on the back, which is made up of small PlayStation shapes. You could never know without seriously looking closely, but it's those details that help make the controller so good.

The overall button layout is kept, but there are some differences. A "Create" button has replaced the Share button, and the PS button is now in the shape of the logo itself. Below that button, there is now a mute microphone button, which controls the new built-in microphone.
