PS5 controller features - Sony PlayStation 5 Game Console

While there are many differences to the controller on the outside, the real benefits are internal. The DualSense controller offers a range of new features that make it, unlike any previous gaming controller.

Most of the buttons look at least slightly different. The buttons and D-pad have a pleasant travel and are nice and defined, while the joysticks are smooth and smooth. However, the best changes come from triggers. The triggers have a much longer journey, plus they are equipped with Sony's new adaptive technology.

This means that developers can make triggers feel like they're actually pulling the trigger on a pistol or create enough resistance to create more tension. It is absolutely fantastic. Games like Spider-Man: Miles Morales and Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart are very good at taking advantage of technology, although we will have to wait and see if others do too.

The tactile aspect is better too. Like way better. The controller offers a new precise tactile feedback that can shake different parts of the controller separately and with the minimum or maximum necessary rigor. So, for example, in Astro's Game Room, the left and right sides of the controller can oscillate independently, even slightly, with the main character's footsteps. It's these touches that can make the game that much more immersive.

Of course, it remains to be seen whether third-party developers really take advantage of the technology. Both Miles Morales AND Rift Apart are developed by Insomniac, which is now owned by Sony, so it makes sense that they use the technology. I'd love to see people like Horizon: Forbidden West AND God of War: Ragnarok use it too.
